A new home, a new look, and a new wardrobe have been a common theme for Zabeels family, who have owned the building for more than 40 years.
But it wasn’t always so simple.
In 1988, when the family moved into a new home on the south side of Manhattan, Zabees mother found the home “wasn’t a nice place to live.”
But after the family relocated to an even more expensive home in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, the family went back to Zabeell’s former home, and it was a completely different story.
“I never got a single phone call from anybody who said, ‘Hey, you’re moving back,'” she told us.
“It was a complete different vibe.
There were no people around, no lights on, no security cameras, nothing.
So it was completely different.”
So when Zabeelt’s parents moved to an old, dilapidated home in Brooklyn in 2014, they didn’t know how to make the move as quickly as they had hoped.
But they made a decision to make their new home a new family, so they moved in as soon as they could, and have since moved back to the Brooklyn home they bought in 1988.
“We’ve always known that we wanted to make our home into our home, that we’re happy to have the family we’ve always had, and that’s why we always want to stay here,” Zabeetel told us over email.
“This is our home.”
