As malls and malls around the country struggle to maintain their cool and attract shoppers, some are embracing new strategies to boost revenue.
A new trend is shopping malls that have more than one store and have fewer than 100,000 square feet, according to the American Retail Federation.
The trend is taking hold in cities including New York, Miami, and Dallas, and has been fueled by rising prices, the federation said in a report.
It estimates the trend is costing retailers millions of dollars in lost business each year.
